New music for 2009...
Most press are suggesting that 2009 is all about Lady Gaga...
As I now have the snazzy new service called Spotify (basically iTunes but streamed and free and legal :D) I listened today to Gaga's new album.
I was personally underwhelmed. The single Just Dance is not a bad track but not great either. As an album it just doesn't seem as creative as 2007s Overpowered by Roisin Murphy (of Moloko fame). That album, for me, is a good comparison as it's a female solo singer-songwriter and it's genre is dance / electronic / pop. Overpowered sounded original and has a longevity to it with a couple of strong tracks.
Gaga's album seems to have on strong track and is quite forgettable very quickly. Maybe it's just too slick in it's production for my ears.
So I'm going to be bold and suggest 2009 is not all about Lady Gaga but no doubt she will sell many albums thanks to all that press and people not having access to Spotify to "try before you buy"
