Music piracy: Singing a different tune | The Economist

Apple’s popular digital iTunes store is little more than a niche service

Another good article, as always, from @theeconomist.

Despite all the haters of U2 (note I'm an uber fan) I think peeps should take note that the likes of Paul McGuiness recognise the current (or is it now the old?) marketing machine of music is rapidly becoming defunct... Despite U2 being labelled as label hype it should be noted their album deals have always been wise in giving full control only to the band in terms of re-issues, greatest hits etc and they've been pro-active with digital in terms of iTunes, YouTube and U2.com

Anyways all this U2 is off topic..

As per the snippet... Surreal reminder to those of us who think iTunes is dominant...

The week ahead...

Been a big day has today... Started with a dawn raid to St Pancras and back and since then has been meetings (all via skype which has surprisingly only failed in one of them!)

Output of those meetings has added to my week which now looks like this...

* Plan a training webinar for a Strawberryway client
* Set up Sales and Service Operations for an internal project at Fiwave
* Prepare a pitch for a Strawberryway lead in the education sector (e- learning)
* Catch up with and progress sponsorship deals for Earth.org

All in all a variedly busy week with which I will juggle my new job of "Dad" for week two ;)

BBC NEWS | Scotland | Fan dressed as sheep set alight

Arriva train
Some reports said many fans were dressed as sheep on the train

A 24-year-old football fan dressed as a sheep suffered serious burns to his arms and legs when he was set alight on a train in Fife.

Aberdeen fans said the man ran through the carriage on fire as others threw beer on him to douse the flames.

The Edinburgh to Aberdeen service was stopped at Kirkcaldy at about 1900 GMT on Saturday to allow him to be treated.

British Transport Police said one man was arrested and another was assisting the police with their inquiries.

A second man is reported to have suffered slight injuries.

The train was carrying Aberdeen football supporters back home after their side's match against Hibs in Edinburgh.

It is understood a number of the fans at the match and on the train were dressed as sheep.

The train involved, an Arriva cross-country train, was the 1808 GMT service from Edinburgh to Aberdeen.

The fan who suffered burns is said to be in a serious but stable condition in hospital in Kirkcaldy.

British Transport Police said a 23-year-old man had been arrested and was expected to appear at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court on Monday.

The spokesman added: "British Transport Police are treating the incident very seriously."

The most shocking thing about this whole event is that scots gave up their beer to help someone else! ;)
